FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Plan your medical.
Know what to expect.
Practical answers for workers and employers arranging occupational health assessments in Welkom and the wider Free State.
Bookings & visits
Can I walk in, or do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome at our Welkom clinic during weekday opening hours. Booking ahead helps us plan the required assessment, particularly for groups. On-site, after-hours and weekend assessments must be arranged in advance.
Can individuals and companies both book?
Yes. We assist individual workers and companies arranging employee medicals. For a group, nominate a booking contact and tell us the employee numbers, occupations, assessment requirements and preferred dates.
Can you assess employees at our workplace?
Yes. We offer on-site assessments at clients’ offices or workplaces by advance booking. Share the workplace address and assessment requirements so our team can confirm the arrangements, suitable space, equipment and quotation before the visit.
Where is the clinic, and which areas do you serve?
Our clinic is at 1 Power Road, Reitzpark, Welkom, Free State. We serve individuals and employers from Welkom, Theunissen, Hennenman and the wider Free State.
What are your opening hours?
Monday to Friday, 07:00–16:00, South Africa time. After-hours and weekend visits are available by appointment. Contact us to confirm arrangements for a public holiday.
Does completing the website form confirm an appointment?
No. The form prepares a request for you to review. You must complete sending it in WhatsApp or your email app. Our team then confirms the service, location, quotation and availability. Your preferred date is not reserved by the form.
Assessments & preparation
Which occupational health services do you provide?
Services include pre-employment, periodic or annual and exit medicals, fitness-for-work assessments, audiometry, spirometry, vision and general health screening. Additional occupational screening is discussed according to the job, exposure profile and clinical requirements.
What should I bring to my medical?
Bring identification, your employer’s referral or booking details if applicable, and any occupational exposure information requested by the clinic. Bring your usual glasses or contact lenses and relevant clinical information requested for the assessment. Share medical records directly with the clinical team, not in the website enquiry form.
What is an Occupational Risk Exposure Profile (OREP)?
An OREP describes the employee’s job tasks and workplace exposures. It helps the practitioner select relevant screening. Employers should discuss the required profile and referral documents with the clinic before employee assessments.
How should I prepare for the tests?
Preparation depends on the screening package. Ask the clinic for instructions when arranging your visit and explain any assistance you need. Do not change prescribed treatment or fast based on general website information; follow instructions from the treating clinician or assessment team.
How long will the assessment take?
The time depends on the tests required, the employee’s needs and any further investigation. Ask our team for an estimate when booking. For groups, we agree a schedule rather than promise a fixed turnaround for every employee.
Will I receive a certificate of fitness on the same day?
A fitness outcome depends on completion of the required assessment and the practitioner’s findings. Where further investigation or referral is needed, certification may take longer. Payment or attendance does not guarantee a fit outcome.
What happens if further medical review is needed?
The practitioner explains the next steps and refers where appropriate. Our referral pathway includes occupational medical practitioners, diagnostic services, hospitals, laboratories and multidisciplinary providers.
Quotations, privacy & support
How much does a medical cost?
Request a quotation for the examination and screening you need. Pricing depends on the assessment scope, employee numbers and clinic or on-site arrangements. Payment terms and any additional investigations are discussed before the relevant service is agreed.
Can I change or cancel a booking?
Contact us as soon as your plans change, using 065 554 7462 or bookings@optimumhfc.com. We will discuss availability and any terms already agreed in your quotation or booking confirmation. This website does not impose an automatic cancellation fee.
Should I send medical records or employee ID numbers through this website?
No. The website form is for booking and quotation details. Please keep medical records, test results, identity numbers and health history for the clinic’s clinical process. Ask our team how to provide sensitive information appropriately.
How are results shared with an employer?
Discuss the reporting arrangements with the practitioner and your employer. Fitness-for-work information and clinical records are handled separately, subject to professional confidentiality, applicable law and appropriate authorisation. A website enquiry is not consent to release clinical records.
Can I request assistance or raise a concern?
Yes. Tell our team about communication, access or scheduling assistance you need so we can discuss arrangements. For a service or privacy concern, contact info@optimumhfc.com or call 065 554 7462.
